Johnny Dell Nugent, 70, of Sterling, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013 at his home in Sterling, ID.
He was born Nov. 19, 1942 in Sterling, ID, to Arnold Napoleon and Della Phillips Nugent. Johnny was the 12th of 14 children.
During his childhood, Johnny attended schools in the Grandview/Springfield area. He attended Aberdeen High School where he met his only love, Susan Joanne Anderson. They were married Oct. 21, 1959 in Rigby, ID. Together they raised four children, Kimmra Ann (Kent) Findlay of Springfield, Marla Kay (Jim) Reed of American Falls, Betty Lou (Clinton) Inskeep and Brian Dell (Debbie) Nugent of Aberdeen.
Johnny resided in the Aberdeen /Sterling area his entire life. During his earlier years, he was employed by the TS Vanderford Company, cleaning the spud sheds in Sterling, worked as a painter for Art Langwalter, then went to work for JW Vanderford as a farm laborer. In 1969 Johnny joined his brothers farming and ranching, raising sugarbeets, wheat, hay and cattle. In 1997 he began his employment with J.R. Simplot Growers Solutions in Aberdeen.
Johnny’s greatest passion was for his family and enjoyed spending time with them. They spent many hours in the outdoors hunting, fishing and working with the cattle.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joanne; his four children; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two brothers, five sisters and his mother-in-law, Velma Anderson of Aberdeen.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, four sisters, his father-in-law Glenn Anderson, and his grandson Brady Findlay.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21, at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot. The family met with friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20, and one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment was in the Aberdeen Cemetery.
