Doris Lindley Stearns passed away on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013 at the age of 95. She was born on June 21, 1918 to Helen Davie and Edwin Ferguson in American Falls, ID. A brother, Jack, was born in 1920. At the time of her birth the family lived in Roberts, ID; they moved to American Falls in 1934 when Doris was a sophomore in high school. That same year Doris met LeRoy Lindley in study hall. They were married on April 21, 1939. They had two children, a daughter, Sondra, and a son, Rand.
Doris and Leroy farmed in Arbon, ID. They spent their summers in Arbon and the winters in American Falls where their children attended school. They ultimately moved to Caldwell and were living there when Leroy passed away in 1988.
Doris’ goals in life were to have a home and raise a family. She took great pride in homemaking, whether it was ironing a shirt or setting the dinner table. She was a fantastic cook. A consummate mid-century woman, she was always well dressed and perfectly styled. She was a rock to her family and managed all household duties and raising her kids with a quiet confidence and keen sense of style and class.
Doris had many friends through the years. She was a member of PEO, Chapter U, The Order of Eastern Star and enjoyed the time spent at hobby club. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church.
Doris met and married Jim Stearns in 1991. She and Jim took great care of one another and enjoyed cruises and vacations together.
Doris will be missed by many, especially her children, Sondra Anderson (Eldon) of Boise and Rand Lindley (Koni) of Emmett, as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was given great care and attention in her final years by Grace Memory Care in Meridian and we wish to thank the staff who did so much to make her comfortable and safe.
