Sydney Collings Peterson was born to J.R. (Russ) and Myrom Collings in American Falls, ID, on July 2, 1942, and passed away in Bozeman, MT, on Wednesday, April 9, 2014.
Her life was full of laughs and her million dollar smile until the ravages of Alzheimer’s finally took its toll. She would have been happy to know that her loving family never left her side.
Growing up in American Falls, she was involved in many things: dancing, cheerleading, driving her favorite car “Zoom,” and trying to stay out of trouble with her sister and good friends Deanna and Nicki.
Her continuing education started at the University of Idaho and was completed with a degree in education from Idaho State University. Syd began her teaching career in American Falls and finished in Jerome, ID, where she was always excited to have a former student approach her with, “Hi, Mrs. Peterson, remember me?”
While living in Pocatello, ID, she met her future soulmate, John Peterson, while he was deer hunting in Lava Hot Springs, ID. She was so fond of saying, “He’s the one that got tagged.” Through the union that would have celebrated 45 years this August, the loves of her life, Rusty and Kylie were created.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Jim. She is survived by her husband John; son Rusty Peterson (Elisa) of Riggins, ID; daughter Kylie (Jamey) Perlinski of Bozeman, MT; her sister Les Cable of Idaho Falls, ID; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was loved by four grandchildren: Austin, Riley, Maxx and Alex.
Friends are invited to celebrate Syd’s life on Saturday, April 26, at the Jerome Country Club from 2 to 4 p.m.
