Albert L. “Bert” Baker, 75, died from a brief illness on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at Colorado Springs, CO. Bert was born as the third son of Earl Leroy Baker and Mayme Lucille Pease at Weiser, ID, on Aug. 18, 1939.
His father was killed in a mining accident on Jan. 7, 1941 in the Salmon River mountains of Idaho. He attended school many years in Rockland, ID, but his mother moved to Pocatello, ID, where he attended Highland H. S. He enlisted in the Army before finishing high school. He spent more than 20 years in the Army before retiring.
He was married for a short time to Patricia Bacon of Pocatello and on Dec. 3, 1960, married the love of his life, Erika Kiefer, in Germany. They had three daughters. After retiring he moved to Colorado Springs where he has lived for the last 35 years. He worked for a time as maintenance man for Ampex, where he repaired and improved their machines. After he retired from that job, he owned a security company which he later sold.
He loved to fish and pulled many beautiful trout and salmon into his boat. His hobby was guns and he and his family spent many hours with a reenactment group that did staged gun fights at many tourist towns in Colorado and other states. He helped build many of the props they used. He used the name, Idaho Deacon, in the gun fights and as his email.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dean Baker of Pocatello, ID. He is survived by his wife, Erika; his daughters, Anita Dicker, Diana (Joseph) Heckman, and Joanne Baker, all of Colorado Springs; by his brother, George LeRoy (Doris) Baker of Weiser, ID; by his sister-in-law, Lucy Baker of Pocatello, ID; by his sister Melody (Bruce) Murdock of Pocatello, ID; by four grandchildren, and one great-grandson.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 12, at Shrine of Remembrance funeral home, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO. Services will be conducted by Bishop Richard Thorne of the LDS Church.
