Douglas DeVore

Douglas Orville DeVore passed away in his home at 61 years of age on Father’s Day, June 19, 2016 in Rigby, ID, surrounded by his wife and five children. He passed quickly from this world after a sharp decline in physical health complicated by early onset Alzheimer’s. His passing from this life to the next transpired once all his children were able to be at his side providing love and support.

Douglas was born in Ogden, UT, on May 21, 1955 to Orville and Joyce Mackay DeVore. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the England Bristol mission (‘75-’77.) He married Sheri Poulson, on Dec 16, 1977 after impressing her sister so much that she had to introduce them.

He was the first to volunteer when he saw something that needed to be done including PTA, church positions, and community service. Scouting and service were a huge part of his life and though he never personally earned the Eagle rank he earned it at least four times by strongly encouraging his sons, and many other young men, to earn theirs. He was the embodiment of the Boy Scout oath and values and lived his life in service to others.

He was very outgoing and could talk to anyone about anything. He spent his life encouraging others to choose the right and to be the best person they could. Even in his last years when he couldn’t work he chose to volunteer at the Idaho Falls Humanitarian Center and other places.

In lieu of flowers the family encourages those who can to donate to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Idaho Falls Humanitarian Center.

He is survived by: his wife, Sheri Poulson DeVore; daughter, Kelli (Justin) Packer; sons, Shaun (Leia), Ryan (Karen), Trent (Natalie), and Cory (Marianne); grandchildren, David, Samuel, Amelia, Clara, Ryder, Luiza, Kannin, Logan, Eliza, Jennalyn, Lucas, another due in August, Britlee, Rustin, Teancum, and Duke. He is also survived by his brothers, Duane DeVore, Allan DeVore, Terry DeVore, Bradley DeVore and Michael Moore; his grandmother, Mabel DeVore; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by: his daughter, Britni DeVore; parents, Joyce MacKay and Orville DeVore; grandfather, Ernest DeVore; and grandparents, Florence Fox and George MacKay; and other aunts and uncles.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 24, at the Sundance LDS Chapel, (602 Sundance, Rigby, ID).
