Dorothy Ann Geertsen Petersen Michaelson, 88, of Fruitland, ID, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2016.
Born on Aug. 21, 1928 to Easter Lily Noble and F. Golden Geertsen in Boise, ID, Dorothy was the oldest of four children. She graduated from Boise High School in 1946. Dorothy attended the University of Idaho and later graduated from Idaho State University with a degree in Business Education. She taught high school business classes at American Falls High School for 24 years.
After retirement, she moved to Island Park and later to Idaho Falls, where she was active with the senior citizens center. In later years, Dorothy moved to Meridian and then Fruitland, ID.
Dorothy was active in many clubs and organizations, both related to and outside of education. During her lifetime, she enjoyed golf, bowling, tennis, pool, quilting, knitting, playing bridge and other games, and especially family gatherings. Dorothy loved her family with all her heart and her friends, former students, and caregivers equally.
While married to Floyd Petersen, they had six children; they later divorced. She married Glee Michaelson and they had one son together; they later divorced.
Dorothy is survived by her seven children: Kris (Ken) Burgemeister of Pocatello, ID; Kay (Adrian) Wegner of Oregon City, OR; Kimi (James) Casad of Fruitland, ID; Kirk Petersen (Glen Bafia) of Seattle, WA; Kariann (Joe) Williams of Island Park, ID; Kevin (Darla) Petersen of Meridian, ID; and Ron (Melinda) Michaelson of American Falls, ID. Dorothy is also survived by her brother Norman Geertsen of Portland, OR, and her sister, Deanna Parker of Roseville, CA. Also surviving her are 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Mary Jean Kanikkeberg.
Dorothy has chosen to be cremated. Her family and friends will remember her at a “bash” in her honor next spring in Boise. Memorials may be sent to the charity of your choice.
The family wishes to extend thanks to the staff of Edgewood Assisted Living, and Encompass Home Health and Hospice, who showed Dorothy such great love and care.
