James Michael Kariger died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018 in Rockland, ID.
He was born in Ogden, UT, Jan. 8, 1951, the first son of George Washington and Mae Clark Kariger. He was educated in Ogden and graduated from Juneau, Alaska in 1970, then served in the army during the Vietnam War.
He was a member of the LDS Church. He worked at the Ogden Fire Department, Hill AFB, and Ogden City as Animal Control Officer. Then he moved to Deweyville, then to Rockland, ID. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He led hunting parties and knew the best places to hunt.
The thing that brought him the most pleasure in life was working with the youth. He volunteered at schools, did Big Brothers, and Randy Russell baseball. He was a positive influence in many young men’s lives. He was also involved in scouting throughout his life.
He is survived by his sister, Dianne Garrelts; two brothers, Randy Kariger and Kevin Kariger; and nieces and a nephew.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11, at Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd., Ogden, UT. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the humane society. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.davisrosemortuary.com.
