Audelia Schatz passed away peacefully in her home Tuesday, May 2, 2023. The daughter of Rufina and Erasto Gonzalez, Audelia was born in Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico on April 30, 1942. Audelia grew up in Piedras Negras, Coah, Mexico.
Audelia and Erwin Schatz were married on April 1, 1984 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in American Falls, ID. On their first anniversary Erwin brought Audelia flowers. Again, on their second anniversary Erwin brought her flowers. Then Audelia said, “Erwin, bring me something that I can remember and keep. Bring me rose bushes that I can plant, one every year, so I can see our love grow.” Those roses grew in her garden on the corner, filling her yard with blooms, which neighbors and friends always loved to stop and see.
She was preceded in death by: her husband Erwin Carl Schatz; her son Juan D. Vasquez; and her parents. Audelia was the youngest of three sisters and four brothers; the last of the Mohicans.
Audelia left behind: her daughter Reyna Vasquez and Tom Kucera; her grandchildren Michelle Herdt, Daniel Vasquez, Dahlia Marie and her husband Christian Coulter, and three great-grandchildren.
She is lovingly remembered by Aldo, Deysi, Mitzi and Adan, the Ledesma children. Adriana Ledesma was more than a caregiver, more than a neighbor; she was her friend, her daughter. A relationship that grew over time, Adriana was a constant presence in Audelia’s life.
A memorial of Audelia’s life will be held at her home, 905 Hillcrest, on Saturday, May 13, at 5 p.m.
