Shirley Kay Groom Mitchell, 86, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024, in Pocatello, ID. Shirley was born April 24, 1938 in American Falls, ID, the second child of Raymond Ross Groom and Pearl Morse Groom.
Shirley spent most of her life in the Rockland Valley. She married Blaine J. Mitchell on April 24, 1957, in American Falls. They raised four daughters, Rhonda, Robyn, Melanie and Kim.
Shirley and Blaine spent most of their lives farming in Rockland. They worked side by side where Shirley was instrumental in keeping the farm records, running for parts, driving trucks and tractors when needed. For many years Shirley helped run the Rockland Café, where she enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors. She loved her girls and their families, and she enjoyed taking trips and doing activities with them.
Shirley had a love of flowers, especially roses, and spent many hours keeping her yard looking beautiful. Hobbies included crafts, reading, bowling, dancing, card parties, fishing and hunting.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Blaine, parents Raymond and Pearl, her sister Glenna Rae Groom Grant, stepfather John Robinson, and brother Byron Robinson.
She is survived by her four daughters, Rhonda Munk (Randy) Rockland, ID; Robyn Hohenfield (Bobby) Pocatello, ID; Melanie Kress (Jon) Rockland, ID; Kim Mitchell (Shane) Pocatello, ID; 15 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; her brothers, Stan Groom (Margie) Rockland, ID, and Ken Groom (Alicia), Fresno, CA, John Robinson (Lorri) Rockland, ID, numerous nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
