Karen Gayle Michaelson, 50, passed away following a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013 at her home in Pocatello, ID. She was born Dec. 8, 1962 in Kemmerer, WY, to Vernon and Janet Long. She attended school in Georgetown, ID, American Falls, ID, and Idaho State University.
Karen’s greatest achievements in life were her children, Jamie and Adam, and her granddaughter, Halle. When her children were small, the family enjoyed downhill and water skiing, get-togethers at the house, boating and snow-machining. In later years she enjoyed camping, entertaining, and travel with family and friends. Karen was a good Christian who freely offered a smile and encouragement to everyone she encountered. She had a zest for living that everyone wanted to emulate.
She was employed at American Falls School District. She began as a teacher aide at WTMS, followed by secretary at American Falls Academy. She then became an administrative secretary at the District Office. She also was a realtor at Outback Realty in Island Park, ID.
Karen will be dearly missed by everyone. She is survived by her daughter Jamie (Jeff) Phillips, son Adam Michaelson and granddaughter Halle Phillips. She is also survived by her brother, Vernon Long Jr., and sister, Nancy Greene, as well as parents, Vernon and Janet Long. Many nieces and nephews also will miss her presence.
Karen will be cremated under the care and direction of Colonial Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Drive for the Cure, Portneuf Health Care Foundation, 500 S. 11th Ave Suite 503, Pocatello ID. 83201. Memorial service details will be in future editions of Idaho State Journal this week.
