Dee George Findlay, 83, of Sterling, ID, passed away Monday, Dec. 30, 2013 at his home.
Dee was born Sept. 10, 1930 in McDonaldville, ID, to George Amus Findlay and Zelda Ilene Capson. He attended school in Snake River and Aberdeen.
On Sept. 10, 1955 Dee married Carol Wellard in Rexburg, ID. They had five children, Tonya Dee, Kent, Cheryl Lee, Lea and Clea.
He served in the United States Navy and Air Force during WWII in various areas, including South Africa and Germany. After the war ended he served with the Military Police in South Africa for two years. He then lived in Utah at Hill Field for the next four years before returning to Idaho to live.
Dee worked at Wright Construction, the INL and for Bingham County crushing gravel. He spent most of his life as a rancher. At the time of his death he was still operating D-2 Land and Livestock. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge for 45 years, a member of the Idaho Cattlemen’s Association, past member of Moose Lodge in Grandview, the American Quarter Horse Association and was a Bingham County Range Deputy. In his free time he enjoyed bowling on a league, spent many years riding bulls, ranching, fishing and the outdoors. He loved spending time with his family.
Dee is survived by his children, Tonya Dee (Don) Anthes of Pingree, Kent (Kimmra) Findlay of Springfield, Cheryl Lee (Arthur) Anderson of Pingree and Lea (Dee Hansen) Findlay of Pingree; brother, Lynn (Chela) Findlay of Pingree; eight grandchildren; and three and three-fourths great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carol; infant daughter, Clea; sisters, Leora Hall and Lola Findlay; grandson, Brady Findlay; and best friend and ranch partner, Bill Thompson.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot. Family met with friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3, and for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment followed at the Springfield Cemetery.
