Leona May Yocom, 85, beloved mother and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at home in Salt Lake City on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015, following a brief struggle with cancer.
She was born in American Falls, ID, on Nov. 8, 1929 to Thomas Andrew Dille and Lois Christensen Dille. Leona led an interesting and productive life, one she shared with hundreds of friends. Her long employment career included work at Northwest Community Action Center, Earl’s Rose Park Pharmacy, Salt Lake Hardware and J.R. Simplot. She most recently served as a foster grandparent for a Head Start program in Pocatello. She had many worldly and spiritual interests, and was proud of her Temple Recommend in the LDS Church.
Leona is survived by children Ilona (Randy) Thayne, Guy (Marcey) Yocom, Sherry Dartnell and Sharon Preslar. She was preceded by daughter Kathleen (Alan) Hansen. Also preceded by husband Kermit “Chuck” Eder. She is survived by nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
The fourth of six children, Leona was predeceased by brothers John, Clifford and Thomas Dille, and sisters Louise Stacey and Mina Marcuerquiaga. She was married in 1949 to Robert Ross Yocom, later divorced.
Our family extends its heartfelt thanks to Intermountain Hospice, Beehive Senior Care and daughter Sharon for their efforts in making Leona’s final days peaceful and comfortable.
