On Friday, April 22, 2016, Gerry Lee Hunt, age 71, passed away surrounded by her loving family. Gerry had suffered for many years from dementia, diabetes, and breast cancer. The cancer won.
Gerry was born Jan. 27, 1945 to Merlin Jefferson Hunt and Ophelia Naomi Hansen Hunt in American Falls, ID. She was the third child of eight. She was preceded in death by her parents, older brother Merlin Jay Hunt and her little sister Sandra Marie Hunt. She is survived by her older sister, Penelope “Penny” Ophelia Bone; her little brother, Norman Wayne Hunt (Joelene); her little sisters, Helen Luaine Furgason and Utahna Jene Waddoups (Michael); and her baby sister, Tamara “Tammy” Black.
Gerry grew up in a military family, and as a consequence traveled the country significantly. She moved so much that she attended three different schools in one year. She was always helpful to her mother and took care of her younger siblings quite often. Gerry was raised in the LDS Church, served a mission in Canada, and served in many church callings. After her mission, Gerry moved back to American Falls. She worked a couple of jobs and then found her place at Falls Irrigation. She worked there for many years and enjoyed her job immensely. She developed many friendships there.
Gerry adored books. She loved to read them, discuss them, and collect them. She helped create a book club and maintained a personal library of several hundred books. Of all her many talents and activities, lying down with a good book was her favorite.
Gerry loved to share in the small moments of life. She loved to call and visit about children, pets, or just share the day. She will be missed more than she could ever know.
Funeral services will be held, Friday, April 29, at 11 a.m. at the American Falls First Ward Chapel, 111 Church Place, American Falls. A viewing will be held from 10 to 10:45 a.m.
